Leg 1: through the Caribbean

From the vibrant docks of Trinidad to the lush peaks of Dominica and the sheltered bays of Guadeloupe, this first leg is pure Caribbean tall-ship adventure. You’ll island-hop on the 30-meter brigantine NEPTUN, sailing under steady trade winds, bracing yards, setting jibs and standing night watches beneath warm tropical skies. Ashore, there’s time to explore spice markets, rainforests, and colorful harbors before returning to the deck for another day under sail. It’s the perfect introduction to life aboard a working brigantine — hands-on, immersive, and full of the Caribbean’s rich culture and beauty.

Exploring the Route – Leg 1

1. Trinidad: Where the Journey Begins

The first leg of NEPTUN’s 2027 Atlantic journey begins in Trinidad, a lively island at the southern edge of the Caribbean. Port of Spain buzzes with music, markets, and ship chandlers — the perfect place to provision, train, and step aboard a working 30-meter brigantine. Here the crew settles into life at sea: standing watch, bracing yards, and preparing for weeks of trade-wind sailing.

2. Grenada: Spice and Sail

From Trinidad, NEPTUN heads north to Grenada, known as the Spice Island. The sweet scent of nutmeg and cinnamon drifts through its colorful capital, St. Georges. At anchor, trainees dive into warm waters or explore lush hillsides and old forts ashore. It’s the first real taste of island-hopping life under square sail — reefing, setting, and trimming sails while navigating short but rewarding passages.

3. Martinique: French Caribbean Charm

Next stop is Martinique, where European flair meets tropical color. Creole markets, café culture, and volcanic peaks surround the harbors. Sailing here sharpens seamanship: coastal pilotage, anchoring under sail, and handling NEPTUN’s square rig in shifting island breezes. Ashore, the crew discovers rich history, local rum, and French-Caribbean cuisine.

4. Saint Lucia: Sailing Beneath the Pitons

Crossing to Saint Lucia brings dramatic scenery — the twin Pitons rising sheer from the sea. The anchorage at Soufrière is unforgettable, and the sailing is classic trade-wind work: steady reaching with quick reef drills in passing squalls. It’s a perfect place to practice tall-ship seamanship while enjoying rainforest hikes and natural hot springs ashore.

5. Dominica: Wild Heart of the Caribbean

Further north lies Dominica, the most untouched and adventurous island on this leg. Towering rainforest, waterfalls, and boiling lakes invite exploration between watches. Crew life blends with expedition spirit: sailing into rustic anchorages, managing lines and sails, then heading ashore for river trips or mountain trails.

6. Guadeloupe: A Sailor’s Landfall

Leg 1 concludes in Guadeloupe, a blend of French elegance and island life. Here, after nearly three months of watchstanding, sail evolutions, and night passages, the crew arrives with a new rhythm of the sea. It’s a place to rest, refuel, and reflect before turning north toward regattas, ocean passages, and the next great legs of the voyage.

Exploring Leg 2

(AVAILABLE)

Leg 2:
from Caribbean to New York, Maine, Canada via Bermuda.

From the warm trade winds of Guadeloupe, NEPTUN sails north to Antigua, soaking in the last of the Caribbean before turning toward open ocean. The brigantine then sets out on a bold bluewater passage, crossing the Gulf Stream to make a dramatic arrival in New York Harbor. From there, the voyage follows the rugged New England coastline to Maine, where rocky shores, lighthouses, and quiet harbors offer a world apart from the bustle of the city. The leg finishes in Lunenburg, Canada, home to classic schooners and a proud shipbuilding heritage.

Exploring the Route – Leg 2

1. Guadeloupe — Caribbean

Leg 2 begins in Guadeloupe, where NEPTUN and her crew make final preparations before leaving the warm trade winds behind. French-Caribbean charm, colorful markets, and sheltered anchorages provide a last taste of tropical island life before the ocean miles ahead.

2. Antigua — Caribbean Farewell

Sailing north, NEPTUN calls at Antigua — a chance to enjoy the island’s legendary harbors, take on provisions, and savor one final Caribbean stop before heading out across the Atlantic. English Harbour and its historic Nelson’s Dockyard offer a fitting send-off for the miles to come.

3. New York — Iconic Arrival

Next comes one of the most unforgettable landfalls of the entire journey: sailing a tall ship into New York Harbor. Passing under the Verrazzano Bridge and past the Statue of Liberty is an experience every mariner remembers — a dramatic contrast to the quiet trade-wind islands left behind.

4. Maine — Rocky Coast and Quiet Harbors

From the buzz of New York, NEPTUN heads northeast along the New England coast to Maine. Here the landscape shifts to evergreen-clad islands, granite headlands, and some of the most storied cruising waters in the world. Fog, tides, and lobster-pot buoys keep the crew sharp as the brigantine threads her way through this beautiful stretch of coastline.

5. Lunenburg, Canada — End of the Atlantic Coast Leg

Leg 2 concludes in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a UNESCO World Heritage port famous for wooden boatbuilding and the fishing schooner Bluenose. After weeks of varied sailing — trade winds, Gulf Stream crossings, and the rocky shores of New England — arriving in this historic harbor marks a proud milestone on NEPTUN’s way home across the Atlantic.

Exploring Leg 3

(SOME AVAILABLE SPOTS)

Leg 3: from Canada  across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe

From the historic harbor of Lunenburg, NEPTUN begins with a leisurely cruise along the Nova Scotia coast — rocky headlands, fishing villages, and some of the finest coastal sailing in Canada. Then comes the heart of this leg: a true transatlantic ocean crossing. Leaving North America behind, the brigantine rides the summer westerlies across the open Atlantic, with weeks of deep-ocean sailing — long swells, star-filled nights, and the timeless rhythm of watch and sail. The mid-ocean reward is the Azores, where the crew calls at Horta and São Miguel before setting course north. If conditions allow, NEPTUN may visit the remote Faroe Islands on her way to the final destination: the charming sailing town of Svendborg, Denmark.

Exploring the Route – Leg 3

1. Lunenburg, Canada — North Atlantic Departure

Leg 3 begins in Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage harbor famous for wooden boatbuilding and proud maritime tradition. Here the crew readies NEPTUN for the adventure ahead: provisioning, checking rig and gear, and preparing for the ocean miles to come.

2. Nova Scotia Cruising — Canada’s Rugged Coast

Before heading offshore, NEPTUN takes time to cruise the Nova Scotia coastline. This is unhurried coastal sailing at its best — sheltered bays, weathered fishing harbors, and dramatic shoreline carved by the Atlantic. A perfect warm-up before the big crossing.

3. The Atlantic Crossing — The Heart of the Voyage

This is what ocean sailing is all about. Leaving North America behind, NEPTUN embarks on her great transatlantic passage — weeks of open-ocean sailing driven by the summer westerlies. Days and nights at sea follow a steady rhythm of watchkeeping, sail handling, and celestial navigation. Long swells, shifting weather systems, star-filled skies, and dolphins riding the bow wave — it’s classic deep-sea seamanship and the defining experience of this leg. For many sailors, crossing an ocean under square sail is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

4. Azores, Horta — The Sailor’s Crossroads

After weeks at sea, the volcanic peaks of the Azores rise from the horizon — one of the most celebrated landfalls in ocean sailing. Horta, on the island of Faial, has welcomed transatlantic sailors for generations. The famous marina wall, painted by crews from around the world, is a tradition NEPTUN’s crew will proudly join. Time ashore to rest, explore, and celebrate the crossing.

5. Azores, São Miguel — Green Island

From Horta the ship sails east to São Miguel, the largest of the Azores. Crater lakes, hot springs, lush tea plantations, and cobbled towns offer a world apart from the open ocean. A chance to recharge before the next passage north.

6. Faroe Islands — Remote North Atlantic (conditions permitting)

If weather and timing allow, NEPTUN sets a northerly course for the Faroe Islands — dramatic cliffs, grass-roofed villages, and some of the most spectacular scenery in the North Atlantic. A rare and unforgettable port of call for those aboard.

7. Svendborg, Denmark — Journey’s End

Leg 3 concludes in Svendborg, a charming Danish sailing town nestled among the islands of the South Funen Archipelago. After an ocean crossing, island-hopping in the Azores, and thousands of miles under sail, arriving in these sheltered Scandinavian waters is a proud and fitting finish.
